Since our founding, the Texas Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been a home of tradition, brotherhood, and excellence. Located in the heart of Dallas, we strive to uphold the values of leadership, scholarship, and service that define SAE. Whether you’re an alumnus, a current brother, or someone interested in learning more, we’re proud to share our legacy and vision for the future with you.

A Legacy of Brotherhood and Excellence

The Texas Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was installed as the 122nd chapter in the Realm of Sigma Alpha Epsilon on March 9, 1923, at a ceremony at the Adolphus Hotel.

The Chapter now boasts 198 active members and 1,751 alumni over its 75-year history. Legendary alumni include:

The fraternity has a devoted alumni organization, which sponsors several achievement and scholarship events each year, including:

  • Spring & Fall Scholarship Dinner (honoring students with a 3.6 GPA or above)
  • Senior Achievement Dinner
  • Mother/Son Weekend
  • Father/Son Weekend

Additionally, the SAE philanthropic activities rank among the top of major universities, including:

  • St. Baldrick Day
  • Chili Cook-off
  • Habitat for Humanity

Over $100,000+ has been raised in the past 10 years

The True Gentleman

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe. – John Walter Waylan

Remembering Don Donnally

Don Donnally dedicated his life to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, serving as Chairman and Chapter Advisor for five decades. He passed away peacefully at home in Dallas, Texas in 2022.

Don’s journey with SAE began in 1963 when he joined the Texas Delta chapter at SMU. He graduated in the Class of 1967 and became Chapter Advisor in 1973. Over the years, he played a pivotal role in shaping the chapter, mentoring generations of brothers, and ensuring its continued success. Nearly 2,100 SAE brothers graduated under his guidance.

More than an advisor, Don was the heart of SAE at SMU. He built a lasting legacy through his unwavering support, leadership, and dedication to the fraternity. His influence extended beyond the chapter house, creating a strong network of alumni who remained connected because of the foundation he helped build. Don was known for his generosity, integrity, and commitment to the well-being of each member. He was always available, offering advice, assistance, or simply a listening ear, no matter the time of day.

His impact on the chapter and its members is immeasurable. He upheld the values of SAE through his actions, demonstrating true brotherhood and selflessness. His leadership shaped the Texas Delta chapter into what it is today, and his contributions will be felt for generations to come.

To honor his legacy, the Don Donnally Endowed Scholarship has been established to support SMU students who join SAE and have financial need. The Donnally family will select each year’s recipient(s). Those who wish to contribute can make memorial gifts to the Don Donnally Endowed Scholarship Fund at smu.edu/giving/Donnally.
