Alternative Asset Management Program (ALTS)

The Alternative Asset Management Program (ALTS) is a highly selective, honors-level academic program within the Finance Department at SMU. Designed for finance undergraduates, it begins in the junior year and provides training in private equity and investment banking. The program is structured around case-based learning and includes a mandatory summer internship at prestigious financial firms. Senior students can take an additional Master’s-level class related to hedge funds or energy. A unique feature of ALTS is its connection with industry professionals who actively participate in the curriculum. The program also offers a CFA review course for students preparing for the CFA Level 1 exam. Admission is based on academic performance, demonstrated work ethic, and interviews.
